Susan Boyle Restores my Faith in Humanity

One of my dear friends, Michael, editor of AfterElton.com, recommended that I “Go to YouTube and search on ‘Susan Boyle.’ It will restore your faith in humanity. I don’t want to ruin it for you, so I won’t tell you what the video is. You’ll love it.”

High praise from Michael. What on earth was he talking about? Trust me, after watching the Rachel Maddow Show’s summary of yesterday’s current events (the Republican Governor imply that Texas should succeed from the Union, tea bagging by the extreme right, and protesters holding racist signs), I needed my faith restored.

I found the video on YouTube, puzzled that it was a clip from Britains Got Talent. I’ve never heard of this TV show until today. I realized Simon from American Idol was a judge on the panel, and then thought, “Really, I have to suffer through this video, knowing that Simon’s going to say something obnoxious.” Finally, I watched Susan Boyle, a 48-year old woman from West Lothian, sing “I Dream A Dream” from Les Miserables. Now I can’t stop watching to Susan’s performance.

A word of warning: If you respond to music like Cher’s character, Loretta Castorini, in Moonstruck, then get out a Kleenex before you watch this video.

Bookmark this video of Susan Boyle on Britains Got Talent. Play it when you’re scared of the political environment or if the recession’s getting you down.
